Norddeutsche Pflanzenzucht Hans-Georg Lembke KG is a global leader in spring and winter canola breeding with headquarters in Germany. Its subsidiary NPZ Australia (NPZA) has successfully bred more than 30 spring canola varieties for Australian canola growers during the past 20 years. To be even closer to the most thriving Australian markets we are planning to transition our company site from Perth, WA, to Horsham, VIC, during 2025-26. In the light of this translocation, we are seeking a talented person to manage the canola breeding program for Australia and develop the new Horsham site for NPZ as

Canola Breeder (m/f/d)

Your Tasks

  • Develop and manage the NPZ canola breeding program for Australia. Coordinate national field trials and support crossing and selfing programs in close collaboration with the parent company.
  • Foster links to field trial service, trait and technology providers. Maintain and develop links to academic partners.
  • Analyze the Australian market and develop strategies to meet customer needs and improve market capture. Foster interaction with sales channels.
  • Work with the current project staff to transfer existing breeding activities of NPZ from Perth to Horsham. Establish and optimize breeding processes on site.
  • Act within budget limits, report forecasts to parent company.

Your Profile

  • Degree in plant breeding or similar. Hands-on experience in a commercial hybrid breeding program is desirable, ideally in canola
  • Strong organizational, communication and management skills
  • Knowledge of the Australian seed market and industry
  • Understanding of and contacts in the Australian research landscape
  • Experience with breeding software and willingness to quickly learn and implement software for experimental design, breeding statistics etc.
  • Team player with good interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to undertake national and international travel
  • Valid Australian driver’s license
